The Pear Tree at Purton – Seventh Year for Wildflower Meadow

By 9th April 2013 No Comments

The Pear Tree at Purton’s wildflower meadow is now in its seventh year and includes over 40 varieties of plants.

The meadow has been created as part of the hotel’s bid to be greener, by Anne Young (Hotel Proprietor). The meadow is next to two beehives, which create the Pear Tree’s signature honey, and the vineyards that produce the hotel’s Cuvee Alix vintage.

Anne works closely with a local naturalist to ensure that the ‘right’ kind of wildflowers are given the chance to grow. Anne said, “It provides a real contrast to the rest of the garden, which has the traditional herbaceous border and lawn.”

Anne is often around to provide tours of the wildflower meadow and may even give you hints and tips if you wish to start your own.
