Picture a hidden, refined sanctuary in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside.

A  vast villa housed in 12 acres of verdant countryside and private landscaped gardens. A house that’s staked a claim on this ground since 1603.

Over the centuries, as the house has changed hands and evolved, its history has deepened, and its appearance refined. Classic Georgian splendor wins out and is alive throughout this hotel but its dedication to contemporary design and luxury are evident. Modernist architectural features are set amongst ancient avenues of trees. Colossal oaks, poplar and beech trees stand sentinel, they could tell tales of Anne Boleyn’s stay at Sopwell when it became her place of refuge, or of the evening HRH Duke of Edinburgh’s parents pledged their love and engagement to one another.

Sophistication is in every detail of this impressive 128-bedroomed house, but it’s combined with the personal touch and warmth of a small family-run hotel.

Staying Safe at Sopwell

There are a number of changes to the way we do things now as many of you would expect, but in essence there are four main principles to the way we will look after guests going forward:

  • Increased Cleaning – From bedrooms to meeting rooms, reception areas to our team members, cleanliness and hygiene is key.
  • Safe Distance – We have reduced the capacity in all areas of the hotel to give everyone more space. We will maintain a safe distance from you and ask you to do the same.
  • Less Contact – We will encourage less contact across the hotel by introducing menus available on your phone, contactless payments and single use items where environmentally feasible.
  • Checks and Measures – Finally, we will be making sure that our staff and guests are healthy with daily temperature checks before entering the hotel. Nominated hygiene ambassadors will ensure everyone is playing their part to keep themselves and others safe.
