Nature, and her far-reaching influence, is everywhere at Ockenden Manor. Nothing calms the mind and feeds the soul as a connection to nature does.

Set in nine acres of Sussex park and woodland, with uninterrupted views of Cuckfield Park, it’s impossible to stay here without doing so.

This is a hotel of two halves. Surround yourself in the Elizabethan glamour of oak panelled rooms and intricately stained-glass windows in this opulent manor house. Indulge in fine dining and breathe in the history.

Step into the 19th century walled garden and a 21st century architect’s dream awaits. The spa. The clean, modern lines of the contemporary extension are in stunning contrast with the surroundings of prime Sussex countryside. The magic continues. The spa is fed by the hotel’s own underground natural spring. There is only one thing on the agenda here – pampering and absolute relaxation. That’s it. Nothing more.

And relax…

Full Moon & Fabulous at Ockenden Manor

A beautiful series of retreats to ‘Rewild Your Senses’ through nature, yoga and meditation guided by Helena Skoog

A series of retreats aimed at connecting with nature and re-balancing, during the full moon.

Let yourself be guided by the gentle hand of forest bathing guru Helena Skoog. For those unfamiliar with the term ‘forest bathing’ simply means the practice of slowing down and totally immersing yourself in the forest atmosphere. Inspired by the Japanese art of Shinrin-yoku which draws on the therapeutic powers of nature to reduce stress and leave you with a profound sense of peace.

And the full Moon is recognised as a time to be receptive, to take the light and awareness of spirit into your emotional and physical body. This awareness can open you to clarity and inspiration around what is happening in your life and when.

Harnessing the power of nature, the moon and the five elements, these retreats embrace love, wisdom & compassion, enabling you to find inner peace and understanding while using your five senses to rebalance and reflect.

Helena was born and raised in the forests of Sweden and has spent the past six years living off-grid in ancient forestry in Sussex. Helena will skilfully guide you through a series of sensory invitations enabling you to connect, in the present moment, with yourself and your natural surroundings.

Sussex’s Nyman Gardens

Set in the High Weald with splendid views, the garden is a series of experimental designs with spectacular planting and beauty all year. Both a horticulturalist’s dream and a peaceful country garden, it is easy to lose yourself in its intimate and surprising corners.

The house, transformed into a Gothic mansion in the 1920s, burnt down shortly after, leaving romantic ruins. The remaining rooms are unexpectedly charming, and filled with flowers from the garden as Anne Messel, Countess of Rosse had them.

Ancient woods beyond the garden dip into the valley, with walks among avenues, wild flowers, the lake and cascades.

The Bluebell Railway

The Bluebell is a heritage steam railway running through the glorious Sussex countryside with a station on Gravetye’s doorstep. As the name suggests, at the right time of year swathes of bluebells line the tracks. William Robinson (the horticulturalist who created the gardens at Gravetye) would throw bulbs from the moving train to encourage the flowers.

The Bluebell Railway was the first preserved standard gauge passenger line in the world.

Sheffield Park Station is the best point to join the Bluebell Railway. This is situated on the A275 East Grinstead – Lewes main road, about two miles north of its junction with the A272. The Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park is well signposted with brown tourist direction signs from the A22 and A23 trunk roads. There is plenty of available parking at Sheffield Park as well as a coach park and disabled bays.
