It’s no overstatement to describe Fingal as one of the most unique destinations in the UK. Permanently berthed on Edinburgh’s vibrant waterfront, this floating hotel effortlessly blends old-world elegance with modern-day glamour – and it’s quite the spellbinding combination.

Fingal’s seafaring story began in 1963, when she was commissioned to maintain and support lighthouses in some of Scotland’s most remote and treacherous locations. Retired from service in 2000, this noble ship now has The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust at the helm and her every inch has been refined for life as a world-class hotel, but with the emphasis very much on preserving and celebrating the authentic Spirit of Fingal.

Stepping aboard is a genuinely unforgettable experience, with an air of romance and unhurried luxury its defining characteristics. From the spectacular cabins with their curved walls and portholes to The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar with its art deco interiors and shimmering ceiling, you’re reminded at every turn that this is no ordinary getaway. But the jewel in Fingal’s crown is her vast deck spaces, which provide a breathtaking setting for sipping champagne, stargazing and ruminating on the rich heritage and enchanting beauty of this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel.

Eat and drink surrounded by the finest Art Deco inspired interiors, inspired by Fingal’s rich history. Here we celebrate the authentic Spirit of Fingal with a splash of superyacht glamour, including a magnificent shimmering ceiling and vast windows, leading onto a deck space for drinking and dining.

Afternoon tea

Enjoy a range of the finest teas followed by a selection of perfectly formed savoury and sweet delicacies and watch vibrant vessels come and go. Sit under a shimmering ceiling and tuck into a selection of delicious sandwiches, cut to mouth-watering perfection. Add some sparkle to the occasion with a glass of Champagne or two and allow the sensational views of Leith Docks to entertain you, like an ever-changing image.

Also worth knowing

The Luxury Cabins have direct access to the decks, perfect for extra space, lots of fresh air and watching the world go by.

The lively district of Leith has a mixture of delightful waterfront cafes, restaurants, quirky shops and markets.  Just a few miles from Edinburgh’s city centre, its unique setting with a working dock, cobbled streets and riverside walkways makes it the perfect place to escape the fast city pace.

Interesting extras

As a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship, Fingal’s duties included bringing equipment of the utmost importance to some of Scotland’s most far-off lighthouses. She was one of three vessels responsible for the Scottish coast and when lighthouse keepers saw Fingal on the horizon, it meant their three week posting was over and that replacement lighthouse keepers and vital supplies were on the way.

Hotel bar

Experience the unhurried luxury of life on board Fingal and delight your taste buds with one of the signature cocktails. The Lighthouse Bar Martini has become a firm favourite or why not try Yard No. 140, the name Fingal was given when she was first commissioned.

Relax under the shimmering ceiling and watch the vibrant vessels of Leith Docks come and go. Escape your everyday and let our crew mix you something special.

Classic Cabin for two people including full Scottish breakfast from £300 per cabin, per night.
