Just a few minutes’ walk from Fingal is her sister ship, The Royal Yacht Britannia. Step aboard Her Majesty The Queen’s former floating palace for over 40 years and follow in the footsteps of Royalty to discover the heart and soul of this most special of Royal residences
It’s no overstatement to describe Fingal as one of the most unique destinations in the UK. Permanently berthed on Edinburgh’s vibrant waterfront, this floating hotel effortlessly blends old-world elegance with modern-day glamour – and it’s quite the spellbinding combination.
Fingal’s seafaring story began in 1963, when she was commissioned to maintain and support lighthouses in some of Scotland’s most remote and treacherous locations. Retired from service in 2000, this noble ship now has The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust at the helm and her every inch has been refined for life as a world-class hotel, but with the emphasis very much on preserving and celebrating the authentic Spirit of Fingal.
Stepping aboard is a genuinely unforgettable experience, with an air of romance and unhurried luxury its defining characteristics. From the spectacular cabins with their curved walls and portholes to The Lighthouse Restaurant & Bar with its art deco interiors and shimmering ceiling, you’re reminded at every turn that this is no ordinary getaway. But the jewel in Fingal’s crown is her vast deck spaces, which provide a breathtaking setting for sipping champagne, stargazing and ruminating on the rich heritage and enchanting beauty of this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel.
