The Bluebell Railway in Sussex – the UK’s only all-steam railway – is one of the best-preserved heritage train lines in the UK. Train services started in 1960 and now run between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead – passing through some of the county’s prettiest countryside.
The Bluebell Railway has a busy programme of events throughout the year including special afternoon tea services and a Halloween scream train. However, riding the Autumn Tint Train (available on various dates between 2nd and 19th October) offers an unrivaled view of the golden red hues that the season brings. Choose between an 11.45 departure with soup included (from £25.50 pp) or a 2.15pm departure with a cream team – both departures are from Sheffield Park station.
Make a night of it and stay nearby at Ockenden Manor Hotel & Spa, set within nine acres of picturesque parkland and gardens in Cuckfield, West Sussex. The Elizabethan manor house is a relaxing retreat with an award-winning restaurant and luxury spa offering a range of treatments.
