Serious adventure junkies should head further north to The Torridon in the Scottish Highlands for a day’s rock-climbing and gorge-scrambling. The hotel’s activities instructor will be beside you all the way as you climb and abseil up and down rocks, crags, trees and a 70-foot zip-wire, followed by the donning of a wetsuit and helmet for an afternoon spent plunging into a world of waterfalls, deep pools and fast-moving rivers. The cost is £60 per person year-round. Overnight accommodation with dinner and breakfast is £130 per person.
