Middlethorpe Hall is a William III country house, close to the historic city of York and set in 20 acres of manicured gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist Lady Mary Wortley-Montagu.
After a period of neglect, the Hall was sympathetically restored with carefully chosen decorations, antiques and fine pictures. The comfortable bedrooms, each decorated individually, are located both in the house and in the 18th-century courtyard alongside.
The panelled dining rooms overlooking the gardens and the imaginative food, much praised in all the guide books, follows the theme of traditional excellence. There are two rooms available for private parties.
Middlethorpe Spa contains a large swimming pool, spa bath, steam room, sauna, gymnasium and three beauty treatment salons. Qualified therapists provide the latest face and body treatments using Clarins, Molton Brown, E'Spa and Jessica products, and are able to provide expert advice. The hotel also has a small conference centre ideal for meetings, receptions and private entertaining.
